Jack Kerouac believed in the merits of his own work. You wove an interesting story on the road to publication.

He did, but like anyone he lost faith sometimes. It's lucky that NWW came along to give him hope during a period of doubt.

my own writing isn't like Kerouac's or Ginsberg or any of the beats I've read. Yet I consider my work beat. go figure/ I don't think Jack ever got over the failure of his first novel. I sent you a jpg. of my upcoming book cover. I'm a good writer it's about time the world heard of me. I did publish briefly in the late eighties' early nineties.

IN THE KEROUAC CONNECTION OPphoo and Blue Jacket and stateside in the Chiron Review, Black bear review, and a lot of other small presses. Then I tried my hand at writing books that lasted until 2005. Since then I have been writing poetry mainly for

myself/ BUt at 74 it's now or never as far as getting my work out/ I have enough material to follow-up this new collection BEAT POETRY& RAMBLINGS with a second volume. Everything depends on this new book selling. I'm going to do all I can to make it a success.

This excerpt, 'Jazz of the Beat Generation', wasn't reprinted until Ann Charters included it in The Portable Jack Kerouac in 2007.

Yes. It's quite hard to find. Charters' book is a great resource.
