Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the 6 Gallery reading, one of the most significant events in Beat history. Jack Kerouac, in The Dharma Bums, called it “the night of the birth of the San Francisco Poetry Renaissance.”
To celebrate this occasion, Beatdom is putting together an issue devoted to the San Francisco Renaissance. We hope this issue will include essays on San Francisco poets, painters, events, venues, presses, and publications.
We are putting out a call for submissions now and will be reading these until the end of July 2025. We are particularly interested in essays although we are also open to reviews, interviews, poems, photos, artwork, and short fiction. Preference is given to work that is closely linked to the topic.
This article gives some suggestions for essay topics and provides information about submitting work. Our usual submission guidelines can be found here. If you have any questions or suggestions, please get in touch.
